Rockaway Hunt Club – New Pool Complex
Rockaway Hunt Club, located on Long Island, began in 1878 as a hunting club. A golf course was added later, in 1900. When we started the project, there was a 3-acre parcel of open field and a practice green. However, there was no existing pool, so guests had to drive to another club across a bridge to swim. The new pool area was built next to the third hole on the golf course. We constructed three buildings to support the two pools: one large adult pool and one kiddie pool. Two of the buildings are single-story structures, and one is two stories. The first one-story building houses the mechanical equipment, including pool filters, heaters, electrical panels, and storage. The second one-story building includes the men’s and women’s locker rooms, restrooms, locker facilities for the adjacent tennis courts, and locker rooms and restrooms for staff and lifeguards. The two-story building contains a commercial kitchen on the first floor and an open bar and lounge on the second floor, overlooking Reynolds Channel. We also constructed a welcome area for the pool, a playground next to the kiddie pool, four pickleball courts, and two large parking lots. We can imagine a long future full of many sunny days with children laughing, water splashing, ice pops eaten, books being read, and a cocktail or two as the sun sets on Rockaway Hunt Club.
